Sorry it's been forever since I updated....
Where to start? First of all, I have finally gone on an outing with one of my Slovak friends. Noemi, the girl from the Evangelické Lyceum who showed Beth and I around, invited Beth and I to go to Au Park, the local mall (one of them, anyway) with her for coffee and a bit of shopping. It was a lot of fun! I'm we went.
This weekend, my host parents took me to Devín, one of the villages just outside Bratislava. It has some castle ruins that are really pretty, and it's just next to the river that forms the border with Austria. People used to try to swim across the river to get to Austria before the fall of the Iron Curtain. Something like 400 people were shot attempting to get to the west. And does my guide book mention this, or the two really nifty monuments to the curtain and those who died trying to get across it? No. It talks about sandstone formations, but not historical monuments. Irritating.
Umm... anything else? Oh, yeah. I'm going to Banske Bystrice this weekend for the second Rotary weekend. I'm going to get to see Misae again!! Yaaaaay!!! Can't wait! Unfortunately, I have to wake up so that I can meet Beth and Carlos by six in the morning on Friday so that we can go to Martin en route to Banske Bystrice to get medical examinations done. Fuuuun, that. Apparently, I get have my blood drawn, and chest x-rays! Just what I always dreamed about!
I also finished my first crochet project here in Bratislava; a scarf I'm going to give someone for Christmas. Don't know who yet, though... Miša also showed me a little yarn shop, that's not too far from my house. I've bought some yarn there for a project I'm... attempting. I don't know how successful it will be. My chain stitches are getting twisted, and I'm not sure if that'll mess things up. We'll just have to see, I suppose....
And that's all there is. There isn't anymore.
