So, I was sitting on the bus on the way home from school today, somewhere between Autobusova Stanična, and špitalská, two people got on my električen. They proceeded to pull out black things that looked like a cross between a seriously obsolete cell phone, and a palm pilot, and began speaking to people in Slovak. I didn't really register this part, as I was listening (as I always do on the električen. I mean, what else am I going to do?) to my iPod, but then, the woman of the pair turned to me and held out her hand. The girl next to me, and handed me her stamped ticket for the električen, and suddenly, it clicked what must be happening: Petra had told me about the people who came onto the električen randomly to ensure that everyone has a ticket and/or pass. So, I began digging for my pass. I found it, but by that time, she had seen that I was looking for it, and went to someone else. This person was apparently the keeper of an invalid pass, or something, because the little cell phone/pda devices beeped at it, which means no good. She probably got a nasty fine, which is definitely not good. Very expensive to cheat the public transportaion people. However, they did come back to me, and I presented them with my pass, which they scanned, or whatever it is they do with the passes. It was approved, and I resumed listening to my iPod in peace.
I have also discovered the grading system in Slovakia. While I don't have to do anything in any of my classes except Francuzsý and Anglický, I have had tests in both, and therefore have received grandes in both. They go by numbers instead of letters, with 1 being the highest, and 5 being the lowest. 1s are pretty much impossible to get. I have gotten 1s in Anglický, but received 2s on my Francuzský exams, due to miss conjugations, and not being absolutely perfect on my oral comprehension. The scary thing? I'm pretty sure I'm still the top of my class in French. That would never happen in the US!
And that's all there is. There isn't anymore.
